This large palace situated on the Via Cavour in the very heart of the city owes its present appearance to the works of embellishment requested of Giuseppe Poggi by the owners prior to the Bastogi family: namely Guido Giuntini, son of Michele Giuntini, the banker and Member of Parliament. The famous Florentine architect revealed once again his particular ability in knowing how to improve ancient sites. He arranged the new monumental façade with its faceted stones, with the large archways for carriages and a long balcony corresponding to the completely renovated reception quarters and the introduction of a large, modern ballroom. In the large courtyard a charmingly decorated avant-corps with stucchi, serving as a passage for the monumental stairway on the ground-floor and as a conservatory for flowers on the first floor. In 1870 the whole palace was purchased by Count Pietro Bastogi and it remained in that family untill 1910. The complex works for the stabilization of the structure, for the reconstruction and restoration of the palace have involved the remodelling of the façade, of the decorations in plaster and the frescoes together with the restoration of the interiors, and the adaptation of the installations for the use of the building as the registered office of La Fondiaria Holding. Projects for the furnishing of the various operative areas of this structure have also been realized. They have become today the seat of the Presidency of the Regional Council of Tuscany.
